I first encountered Play Vinyl and it’s enthusiastic and knowledgeable principal, Daniel in 2011, while looking for a decent record player. A decade later, they have taken me on a journey through high-fidelity sound, via amplifiers, tuners, speakers, record players and of course, vinyl. Daniel is the genuine article, a true expert, and will spend as much time as you want ensuring you get the right equipment. More importantly, he is entirely straightforward and honest, and has earned the trust and loyalty of his customers by looking after their long-term interests.

I found this store purely by accident. Tucked away behind Columbia Road flower market, Daniel’s emporium of sound generating gems is incredible. His stock is always changing, the products are beautifully and lovingly restored and his knowledge is second to none. He’ll advise you on the perfect record player, amplifier, hi-fi kit to suit your pocket. But I admire the attention to detail has shown to the products he sells. Highly recommended. Go into his shop and ask him to turn the music up loud. You’ll be glad you did.

Brilliant service, Daniel was happy to spend his time explaining the complexities behind the different hi fi systems so that I was making a very informed decision. The turntable is beautifully crafted and sounds amazing. I can't stop listening to it, would highly recommend.

I bought a beautiful and fantastic Hacker record player from Play Vinyl in 2018 and it has been a joy listening to all my vinyl on such a great piece of kit. Fast forward to Covid and it suddenly stopped working. I called the super knowledgeable owner Daniel up, and he thought it’d be something simple like one of the little fuses etc so I dropped it off in a socially distanced manner, and he repaired it in 3 days, free of charge AND even delivered it back to me as he was driving past my home in West London and wanted to save me the trip East.

I cannot stress enough how much knowledge and how much of a passion these record players are to him and I’ve just played the ‘Chaka’ album back to back and I’m the happiest I’ve been since lockdown began.

Daniel the knowledgeable, passionate owner of this remarkable shop gave us such time and care. A true education.
When Daniel put a period vinyl on one of his machines it was a revelation. Your ears and heart open up. It’s simple. The original pressings were made to be played on these great mechanical decks.
There’s a complexity of sound that took my breath away, made my heart skip. The separation of voices, instruments made me feel as if you were there in the room with the musicians.
The sound goes into your belly and fills your heart.
Time travelling at its best. My husband says it’s the best thing I’ve ever got him. We haven’t stopped dancing since.
